“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”

I don’t think there’s really anything more I can add, other than confirming it’s true–you only need to take a look in the newspapers or online…
Wow—a month has gone by since my last post. I’ve had a few outside things to deal with that have precluded my being active here, but I should be back on track shortly. In fact, I will probably do a bit of housecleaning, rearranging and a refresh of my blog to prepare for future undertakings…
In the meantime, I have been continuing with my efforts at weight loss and getting back in shape. During my daily walks, I’ve taken up running—yes, running, even with bad knees—during at least part of the time, and I’ve also gotten back into the gym to lift weights. That and my already established diet/exercise habits have now lead to:
This morning, I broke through the 170-pound barrier for the first time in more than 10 years: I weighed 169.9 pounds.
I was only slightly ahead of my prediction of early- to mid-May, so I’m proud of myself. My crazy goal of 160 Pounds is now almost frighteningly within reach. According to the “official” Fitbit projections, that should come around mid-July; but if my track record so far is any indication, it’ll be more like mid-June.
How LOW can I go…
So here’s how I’m doing on my diet and exercise plan. I could now wrestle at 172 (though I’d definitely get flattened)! I’m rather proud of myself–I haven’t been this light in a decade, and there are just 10 pounds to go before I reach my original goal… 🙂
–K.T. McFarland in a very trenchant opinion piece
What a coincidence that I’ve read two excellent pieces recently by Ms. McFarland. And this one goes right along with an earlier post of mine wherein I mused about the evils of politics infecting our daily lives to such an extent that it trumps all sense of propriety. But then what else would you expect from a man who gives the Queen of England an iPod?
“Evil does not come from an object or a substance or anything else outside of ourselves…Controlling or eliminating these things will never eliminate evil. And evil is never satisfied. Evil works overtime. Evil does things purely for their own destructive ends.”
–Charlie Broadway, from a post on his blog
Way to state the case, Charlie! And way to call out our elitist political classes and their sycophants in the press–not to mention a large-ish segment of American society–on being so willing to piss around with trying to “fix” the problem to suit their own political ends without ever getting to the root causes.
I can hardly wait until congress introduces legislation to regulate and/or ban the ownership and purchase of pressure cookers…
